The upcoming Democratic Primary race, scheduled for September 13th 2012, for the newly created 22nd Assembly district looks like it will be a tight one once the petition challenges are completed as it involves many well qualified candidates all vying for the position. The Democratic Party currently has five potential candidates for the seat. These candidates are:
Patrick Emeagwali, presently a member of the Elmont School Board and college professor. Also he is a resident of Tudor Manor Civic Association in Elmont.
Patricia Maher, a resident of East Meadow and apparently a professional politician who has been an unsuccessful candidate for many other positions.
Michaelle Solages, a paralegal, librarian assistant at Hofstra University and is also the sister of the current Nassau County Legislator Carrie Solages. She is also a resident of the Elmont Community.
Christobal Stewart, a member of the Valley Stream School Board. He lives in the village of Valley Stream.
Milagros Vicente, founder of the Save the 5th Precinct movement and a resident of Valley Stream. She was also named Mom of the Year by Valley Stream Moms.
Another candidate Monique Hardial a sitting member of the Elmont Public Library board was removed from the ballot for what election commissioner William T. Biamonte described as “fatal flaws” in her petitions.
Milagros Vicente is currently locked in a contentious struggle with the Solages campaign to remain on the ballot. Sources close to the “closed” proceedings involving Milagros Vicente say that she has overcome the challenges to her petition. “She needed 41 signatures and with less than 25% of the challenged signatures counted she has surpassed the 41 needed.
Community residents are supportive of the Milagros Vicente candidacy and were happy with that outcome.
“Not so fast” said an observer, "the Solages Campaign, backed by the well financed Nassau County Democratic Party, is threatening to take their challenge all the way to the New York State Court of Appeals."
Christobal Stewart and Patrick Emeagwali will also be facing similar Solages campaign challenges and will be in court on Friday August 3rd.

On the other hand we are presented with a candidate who is passionately involved in securing the Rights, Benefits and Priveliges that our community, ELMONT, deserves. surely, you'll agree that a viable tax base brought about by significant economent development is crucial and essential to the life and blood of patient Elmont.Michaella Solages possess the unique ability to become the instrumental player in securing additional stste aid for our children and schools. she can strongly communicate the current devastation which occurred : cut in state aid, no summerschool programs for our children, the loss of the fifth precint located in Elmont cuts in math science and music programs. Let me be clear, these are important issues that we as a community : the Civic assoc, the PTA, interschool PTA, Board Members from both the education and library districts, our religious leaders, elmont youth outreach, gyo, our seniors and the disabled. Michaella Solages can help to make this happen. the time is now to decide whether you will come out and support Michaella Solages and the Democratic party on Primary day September 13 or risk loosing the entire 22nd assembly district an outsider. we share the same goals and that is we elect the strongest democratic candidate who has the full backing ofthe party and the full backing of the residents of Elmont. Michaella Solages is the right Candidate. Thank you may God bless us with his infinate wisdom to make the right choice on September 13th, thank you Michael G. Hardial
