Democrats Vie to Represent Community

DSC0079_011_002The upcoming Democratic Primary race, scheduled for September 13th 2012, for the newly created 22nd Assembly district looks like it will be a tight one once the petition challenges are completed as it involves many well qualified candidates all vying for the position. The Democratic Party currently has five potential candidates for the seat. These candidates are:

Patrick Emeagwali, presently a member of the Elmont School Board and college professor. Also he is a resident of Tudor Manor Civic Association in Elmont.

Patricia Maher, a resident of East Meadow and apparently a professional politician who has been an unsuccessful candidate for many other positions.

Michaelle Solages, a paralegal, librarian assistant at Hofstra University and is also the sister of the current Nassau County Legislator Carrie Solages. She is also a resident of the Elmont Community.

Christobal Stewart, a member of the Valley Stream School Board. He lives in the village of Valley Stream.

Milagros Vicente, founder of the Save the 5th Precinct movement and a resident of Valley Stream. She was also named Mom of the Year by Valley Stream Moms.

Another candidate Monique Hardial a sitting member of the Elmont Public Library board was removed from the ballot for what election commissioner William T. Biamonte described as “fatal flaws” in her petitions.

Milagros Vicente is currently locked in a contentious struggle with the Solages campaign to remain on the ballot.  Sources close to the “closed” proceedings involving Milagros Vicente say that she has overcome the challenges to her petition. “She needed 41 signatures and with less than 25% of the challenged signatures counted she has surpassed the 41 needed.

Community residents are supportive of the Milagros Vicente candidacy and were happy with that outcome.

“Not so fast” said an observer, "the Solages Campaign, backed by the well financed Nassau County Democratic Party, is threatening to take their challenge all the way to the New York State Court of Appeals."

Christobal Stewart and Patrick Emeagwali will also be facing similar Solages campaign challenges  and will be in court on Friday August 3rd.

I have met ms Milagros she is an hispanic American female, well educated, she has a beautiful family.I have interacted with her on several occassions and have always found her to intelligent, astute, very well prepared for the position which she seeks.I have a gret deal of respect for and her willingness to accept the many challenges that will be associated with that position.
On the other hand we are presented with a candidate who is passionately involved in securing the Rights, Benefits and Priveliges that our community, ELMONT, deserves. surely, you'll agree that a viable tax base brought about by significant economent development is crucial and essential to the life and blood of patient Elmont.Michaella Solages possess the unique ability to become the instrumental player in securing additional stste aid for our children and schools. she can strongly communicate the current devastation which occurred : cut in state aid, no summerschool programs for our children, the loss of the fifth precint located in Elmont cuts in math science and music programs. Let me be clear, these are important issues that we as a community : the Civic assoc, the PTA, interschool PTA, Board Members from both the education and library districts, our religious leaders, elmont youth outreach, gyo, our seniors and the disabled. Michaella Solages can help to make this happen. the time is now to decide whether you will come out and support Michaella Solages and the Democratic party on Primary day September 13 or risk loosing the entire 22nd assembly district an outsider. we share the same goals and that is we elect the strongest democratic candidate who has the full backing ofthe party and the full backing of the residents of Elmont. Michaella Solages is the right Candidate. Thank you may God bless us with his infinate wisdom to make the right choice on September 13th, thank you Michael G. Hardial

I see ElmontResident point from but it is lost because you hide behind a false name. Who are you? Take the site to task it you want but be real and grow a pair (balls or ovaries). That is the problem with Elmont - everybody is hiding.

If it wasn't for Carrie would Michaelle be running? If it wasn't the Nassau County and the State Dems choosing the party candidate would Michaelle be the party's candidate? Valid questions that need to be considered. It's easy to take on a task when the system is in your favor no matter how ill equipped or unprepared you are.

Elmont is the community that our family calls its home. It is the pillow that we lay our heads on. It is a living and breathing place with a pulse. We are proud to call this place our home. We have been and continues to be involve in its social, political and economic development. I have been president of the North Argo Civic association, Elected trustee to the Elmont School Board, Retired Captain of the NYC correction Department, Member of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary. I have walked the streets of Elmont, met and spoke with many concerned residents; My daughter, Monique Hardial-Swaby, an elected trustee of the Elmont Public Library fully supports Michaelle Solages in her run for the NYS Assembly on the Democratic line. The time has come for us as members of this community to stand up and be counted; To have our voices heard and to have our votes counted. If we fail to come together and support Michaelle Solages we will have failed as a community to elect as individula who cares about the future of this community.

open letter-02

Today, we are talking to people about sustainable economic development, because we think it's important to show support for key issues that affect our community - like places in the Elmont for young professionals to live, shop and be entertained; like keeping families closer together and rebuilding the economic and social pillars of the community.

Eyes On ...

joe smith

This crossed my desk today, “… and Aubrey, what’s the status of the Joe Smith case?  I hope it’s not forgotten?!”

Well EoL Reader, Smith was formally arrasted and charged with the crime on March 29 and I suspect from your emphasis on “?!” you are asking a deeper question.  Will Joe Smith like Vinny Prisco get away with the ongoing intimidation of Nassau County (Elmont) residents on behalf of the Long Island Republican establishment?  Will Republican dollar$ subvert the public good - again?  The answer remains to be seen.
