ELMONT NY - Members of the Nassau County Redistricting Commission who were appointed by the County Democrats have scheduled three meetings over the next few weeks at which the public can share their thoughts directly with the Nassau County Redistricting Commission.
A spokesperson for the members appointed by County Democrats said “… these meetings are necessary because the Commission’s Chair, Frank Moroney, has made it clear that he has no interest in allowing the public’s wishes to influence the Commission!”
During the meeting held at County Legislative Chambers on June 29 Chairman Moroney refused to let the public speak until after the Commission completed his entire agenda. Moreover, he and members appointed by Nassau County Republicans refused the request of the Democratic Commission members to hold public meetings before proposed maps are drawn.
“Chairman Moroney frankly made clear his view of public participation when he stated that public comment at Commission meetings is “gratuitous!”” said the Democrat’s spokesperson.
In an email to residents the Democratic Committee said “We don’t agree with that, and we hope that you don’t either!
We believe the public deserves a fair and transparent redistricting process.”
The meetings are as follows:
- Hempstead-Monday, July 23 at 6pm
Kennedy Park335 Greenwich Street, Hempstead - Oyster Bay- Wednesday, July 25 at 5pm
JCC Mid Island Y, 45 Manetto Hill Road, Plainview - North Hempstead- Wednesday, August 1 at 2pm
